Turkish soap Kösem Sultan to hit your TV screens soon
Remember Mera Sultan? And how everyone's inner royal woke up with a
start and women started dreaming of owning a bucket load of maids and
waking up to bathtubs full of rose petals and floating candles. That
drama serial turned our moral compass upside down as we saw a very
respectable (and to a certain extent religious) king picking and
choosing his favourite female slave and that too with the approval of
his own mother! Things turned too gory, but the audience couldn't resist
watching the turkish extravaganza and it was one of the most highly
watched soaps in Pakistan.
After big #Turkish hits like Ishq-e-Mamnu and Kaala Paisa Pyaar,
Urdu 1 has now decided to bring a period drama based on similar lines
titled Kösem Sultan starring Beren Saat - the Turkish who played the
role of Fatima Gul and Ishq-e-Mamnu - and Ekin Koç.
The
soap tells the story of a slave girl, Kösem Sultan (also known as
Mahpeyker Sultan), who became one of the most powerful women in Ottoman
history after she was captured and sent to the harem of Sultan Ahmed as
per Wikipedia. Does the story sound a bit too familiar to Hooram's tale
in Geo Kahani's soap, Mera Sultan? We think so too, but it
would be nice to see the protagonist's life in Greece before she was
captured and brought to Sultan Ahmed's Harem.
Moreover, Beren Saat is one beautiful actress who
manages to capture the audience's attention whenever any of her soaps
airs in Pakistan. Let's see if Kösem Sultan will enjoy similar fan following as Saat's previous projects - Ishq-e-Mamnu and Fatima Gul.
